The Restoration of the Monument

In 2014 with the backing of the Illinois Labor History Society Mark started an IndieGoGo campaign to replace the stolen palm fronds from the Haymarket Martyrs Monument. It is unknown exactly when the palm fronds were stolen, likely sold for their bronze, like many pieces from the Forest Home Cemetery. Mark worked closely with the conservator and was present when the new palm fronds were cast.

In addition to raising the money to have the palm fronds replace Mark also raised money to get a mold made of the rear plaque in the event it is ever stolen, replace the stolen brass plaque with the names of the Martyrs who were not hung, and a gravestone for Nina Van Zandt Spies the wife of August Spies.
